Teaching
My philosophy of singing.
My ultimate goal is always to help a singer free up their vocal production so that they are able to express what’s in their heart, and find their own true sound, not one that sounds like everyone else, their teacher, or their favorite recording. It is finding that unique sound that will make a singer stand out in an audition room, concert hall or opera house. I can help you alleviate the tension that is preventing the freedom your instrument requires, enabling you express without worrying about your vocal technique. We will do the work in the studio that will liberate your performances. The surefire way to avoid stage fright, is knowing that your technique will work for you before you step on the stage.
I earned a Masters degree from the Eastman School of Music in Performance and Literature, and studied 23 years with Rita Shane. I also worked several years with Bill Schuman. I still maintain a very active performing career and have my finger on the heartbeat of what’s happening in the Opera business. I worked my way through apprentice artist programs such as The Santa Fe Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Florida Grand Opera, and Opera Colorado. My career has taken me all over the globe to some of the worlds greatest opera houses singing leading roles at the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, San Francisco Opera, Dallas Opera, Semperoper Dresden, Hamburgische Stadtsoper, and Opera Philadelphia. During that time I had the great opportunity to work with conductors such as James Levine, Donald Runnicles, Corrado Rovaris, Daniele Caligari, Marco Armiliato, Fabio Luisi, Nello Santi, and Alberto Zedda. I’ve worked with coaches such as Roger Vignoles, Armen Guzalemian, Nico Castel, Kathleen Kelly, Ken Merrell, and Russell Miller.
After having applied everything I have learned to a 20+ year career, I am certain that I can help liberate your inner voice and become the best singer you can be!
I live in Quakertown, PA and have a studio where I teach separate from my home. I would also be willing to travel as long as there is a keyboard available. I also work sometimes in Center City Philadelphia, and in a pinch, Skype/Facetime lessons are a possibility.
